What am I up to?

I received an e-mail from an old client wondering what I was up to. Well, I am still working on the amazing www.fitclub.ca website for everyone to sign up and use. I am working out too little, but will try to get back in 5 days a week again this week. I have had a diploma in fitness and nutrition for many years, but am taking courses next month to complete my personal trainer certification through Can-Fit-Pro and then will move on to the ACE certification as well. There is a great IFBB program that is of interest as well, so I am keeping busy.

The Breaking Point

Why Change Your Lifestyle?

My mantra that my clients keep hearing also speaks volumes. If changing is soooooo hard, why change your lifestyle? Nobody says you have to change everything at once. My mantra is:

Making Every Workout Count

What training style should you use? There is high volume, heavy, light, moderate, short rest periods, long rest periods, slow reps, fast reps and everything in between. So, which is best for you? All of them!

When you try something new and overload a muscle or group of muscles, the body is forced to adapt. Adaptation = progress. There is no "one" way to grow muscle perfectly as everyone has a different genetic profile. Some gain quickly, some slowly, and some find it almost impossible.

How do you find out what works? You have to try it for a period of time and measure the results. This is what I do with my clients, we take a picture before and then start a program for 6-8 weeks and measure the results. If it is working, then continue with it, if it is not working, look at what else can be altered.

This is the one major difference from myself and other fat loss type programs, I make everything individual. The basics are the same for everyone, but when you get down to the 6-8 weeks after beginning the Phoenix Bodystyling Lifestyle program, you now need personal attention catering to your body and your needs.

Many programs will have you lose 10 or 20 pounds very quickly and then the progress stops. So after 3 months, you get frustrated, lose interest and gain the weight back. When you give Phoenix a try, you will lose 1-2 pounds a week (if fat loss is your goal) and it will be consistent and stay off. You will stay motivated, you have this blog, my e-mail address and the ability to ask any question anytime. There are great things coming as well.

So, try everything and learn what it does to your body. Stick with what works for YOU and discard what does not work. We all have busy lives, so let's not waste time with things that may not work for you.

Raised On Junk Food

I think we were mostly all raised on junk. When our parents went out, they left treats to make us feel better. Food became our best friend and soothed our souls when we were bruised. When we were lonely or depressed, food made us feel good again for a short time.

Fad diets will never be a solution and our medical industry does not want us to be healthy and in better shape! They don't make money that way. So, here I am, losing my own weight, gaining my own muscle, starting to have hatred for Billy Blanks Ultimate Boot Camp......DUDE! OUCH!! The point is, I am changing one person at a time, I started with myself and now I am moving on to anyone who wants the help. Let's put greed out of business. We all know what healthy is, we just need a kick in the right direction.

On Top Of The World Ma!

Why are you doing this? That is the question I was asked today, by a coworker. Why am I not charging lots of money, why am I doing it for free, why am I helping people who cannot afford it and why bother.....? Well, we all have a reason for being here and I have found my reason.

Everyone should be able to access health and fitness information and be guided by someone without months of waiting for referrals. It should be free for everyone, but we do have to make a living at it. Again, I leave nobody out, let me know what you can afford and we will get something to work for everyone.

You can do it! Lose 10 pounds or 500 if you need to, we can all help each other and band together to change this industry that wants to take your money for nothing. I give you knowledge and support, the most important things you need to get the job done. You will reach your goals, and you will have someone by your side supporting you and available at the click of a mouse!

I get in better shape day by day and so can you. I fail and cheat on my nutritional plan and am not perfect. I still want to get into a condition to compete and you can to. Let's git'r'done!

Forgiveness

When we gain weight (fat) we blame ourselves for various things. Maybe it is blame for eating poorly, eating too much, or just for being weak. Maybe it is for lack of knowledge about our body. Whatever the blame you put on yourself, today....STOP. E-mail me and let's get you back on track and get your goals in place. If you have no goals, how can you plan? Building Your World With Maybe's & Never's!

How true is that! The title of this blog entry also refers to the song lyrics, we all do this, build our world full of maybe's and never's! Why, because it is the easier path! It is the path well traveled, and not the path less traveled.

"Maybe one day I will lose the extra weight."
"Maybe one day I can look like a bodybuilder."
"Maybe one day I will be a better example to my children."
"I'll never lose this weight."
"I'll never be a bodybuilder."
"I'll never, never, never, never.............."

Listen, we all make mistakes, we all try and give up and try again, however, if we work together our chances are greater for success! Let's do it! I believe in you and you believe in you! Together there is nothing we cannot do!


And speaking of the path less travelled, how about Robert Frost in 1920 when he wrote The Road Not Taken. I give it to you now to read!

"TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,

It makes all the difference, because it is unique to you, it is something that only you can take and cherish. You make the effort and it pays off. Words to live by! There is no reason not to try a new path, unless it seems too good to be true.

Let me lead you down the path less traveled. The path that requires a little bit of work on your part, a little bit of work on my part to lead you there, and a great deal of celebration at the end.

I do not claim to be a miracle worker, nor do I claim to be perfect. I am still 30 pounds away from my goal weight and my goal of entering and competing in a bodybuilding show! How is that for the road less traveled. The work that I do and the knowledge I share will not make me rich, but it will certainly enrich my life and those around me!

What Motivates You?

What are your fitness goals? What are your nutritional goals? How much time do you have? Are your breaking your big goals down into many smaller ones, and ticking them off as you go along your journey? What motivates you?

So many questions, and they all have answers, your answers! They are unique to each of us and nobody really has the same goals! Some of you want to be better role models for your children. Some want to help their children so the other kids don't make fun of them, or you! Some just want that extra 10 pounds gone. Some want that extra 200 pounds gone. Whatever your goal, please believe me when I say that, "WHATEVER YOUR GOAL, WE CAN GET THERE TOGETHER!"

I want to be a role model for my children. I want to change my place in the world. I want to be remembered for helping others achieve success. Those are some of my goals, and while I have many others, they help to now keep me focused. I fall off the wagon and pound back chips and candy, but then I get back on and keep going. You can't give up, but it is easy when you do not have anyone in your corner, yelling, and telling you that you are worth it and can do it!

Why do we need motivation?

I think that many of us focus on failure more than we focus on striving for success. As human beings we feel the need to be accepted into a group, nurtured by friends and family, loved, respected and feel we have a purpose. We also tend to get motivation from what we see others doing.

It just feels great to have someone in your corner! It rocks to have someone, a live someone you can e-mail or call and get the answers your looking for. We are all unique, we are all important. If you intend on wasting your money....send it to me.

OK, put down the credit cards, put down the 1-888-ord-erme numbers and back away from the infomercials!! The diet and fitness industry is hell bent on making sure that your 1986 Hyundai stays in the driveway and you spend $600 a month on supplements and membership fees in order to look your best........ somehow they never seem to work as described on the TV! WOW! "My god Jim, I'm a doctor not a miracle worker!"

Welcome!

This will be the beginning of something great and a new career for me. I hope you all join me in my path of health and fitness. I was once almost 400lbs and now hover at around 250. I will be competing in a bodybuilding show late this year or early next year. This will be a blog that explores nutrition, health and wellness, fitness, bodybuilding and the love of food.

This will also prove to be my attempt at a new career. I have a diploma in fitness and nutrition and am working to become a certified personal trainer and nutritional consultant. People should not have to pay thousands of dollars to achieve a good level of health, all you need is affordable advise. This is where I hope to make my mark.
